Train Consistently

Posted by: rtimberlake    Tags:      Posted date:  July 11, 2011  |  2 Comments

Raising children is like rounding up a sky full of fireflies.  Often times the task can seem overwhelming.   What did you do this week to instill some consistency in your home?  How are you beginning to train up your children in the way they should go?  Did you create a list of “house rules” with corresponding consequences?  Did you have a situation arise in which you were able to let your yes be yes and your no be no?

Whatever it is, we (and thousands of other parents out there) would love to hear about it.

Leave a comment and let other’s know how you TRAIN CONSISTENTLY.

O.K. so Sunday my wife and I were working with the 4-6 year olds at our church. After being in the group for about 3 minutes I noticed several kids that were quite unruly. I could not address them all effectively (about 25), but one boy stuck out quickly so I gave him lots of extra attention. For the next hour and a half. I corrected him and loved on him. He was off the chart disrespectful, and all over the place physically, rolling around, hitting other kids, not listening etc. I continued to be stearn taking him out several times, making him sit and look at me and listen, and praising him when he did well. I prayed with him and told him he could do it and I expected him to. There was a time about 45 minutes into the ordeal where he was sitting where I had instructed and soon he scooted over and was hugging me on the leg. I rubbed him on the head and it seemed like a moment of victory. There was no magical, “everything is fixed”, but we did make a lot of head way in a short time. A lot of work? yes! Wearying? yes! Worth it? Most definitely.
